Your information, handled with care

Pack 79 is a volunteer-run Cub Scout pack in Charlotte, North Carolina. This page explains, in plain English, what our forms collect, who can see it, and how to have it removed.

Last updated October 12, 2026 · 2026–27 program year

What our forms collect

Our public Join / Learn More form asks for a parent or guardian name, an email address, and optionally a phone number, a child's first name, grade level(s), school, how you heard about us, and a short message. Only the parent name and email are required.

The One Pack “Request Parent Access” form collects a parent name, email address, and optionally a child's first name and grade level(s).

Inside the One Pack parent portal, signed-in parents may add their own family details (Scout first name, grade, den) and their own communication preferences.

We do not ask for addresses, birthdates, medical information, payment card details, or government identifiers anywhere on this website.

Why we collect it

To reply to your question and invite you to a meeting.

To verify that someone requesting portal access is an existing Pack 79 family.

To send Pack announcements you have opted into, and to run the Pack's program year.

That's it. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.

Who can see it

Submissions are stored privately and are readable only by Pack 79 volunteer leaders who hold an administrator account in the One Pack portal. Access is enforced by database-level security rules, not just by hiding pages.

Anonymous website visitors can submit a form but can never read, edit, or delete any stored submission — including their own — through the website.

Other parents cannot see your submission, your family details, or anyone else's.

Pack 79 volunteers are unpaid parent leaders. They see only what they need to respond to you and to run the Pack.

Information about children

Children do not create accounts and are never asked to submit anything on this website. Any information about a child reaches us only because a parent or guardian chose to type it in.

We ask for a first name and grade only — never a last name, birthdate, photo, address, or school schedule — and you may leave every child field blank.

If you would rather not include any child information at all, just tell us your family situation in the message box instead.

How long we keep it, and how to delete it

Inquiries are kept while we follow up and for the remainder of the program year so leaders can see who we've already talked to. Access requests are kept as a record of who was approved.

Anti-abuse records (which contain no names or email addresses — only a one-way hashed identifier) are automatically deleted after 24 hours.

You can ask us to delete your inquiry, your access request, or your portal account at any time. Send the request through the Join form and tell us the email address you used; we'll confirm once it's removed.

How we protect it

Data is stored in a managed, access-controlled database with row-level security policies that scope every read to an approved, signed-in leader.

Portal accounts use email and password sign-in with leaked-password protection, plus an email link fallback. Only pre-approved or leader-approved emails can reach parent content.

The site is served over HTTPS. Forms include spam protection (a hidden decoy field, rate limiting on a hashed identifier, and duplicate suppression) that does not require any extra information from you.

Calendar and schedule privacy

The Pack's detailed schedule — specific event locations, times, notes, and the underlying feed and spreadsheet links — lives entirely behind One Pack sign-in and is available only to approved Pack families.

The public website shows only our general meeting night, start time, and meeting location. Nothing on the public site reveals where our Scouts will be at any other time.

We never sell or share your information

Pack 79 does not sell, rent, trade, or share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or any other organization for marketing purposes.

We use a small number of service providers strictly to operate the site: website hosting, the database and authentication service, and — when configured — an email delivery service for Pack announcements and a push-notification service for families who opt in. These providers process data only on our instructions.

Scouting registration itself is handled directly between your family and Scouting America; this website does not transmit registration data on your behalf.

Cookies and analytics

We do not run advertising trackers, third-party analytics pixels, Google Analytics, social media pixels, fingerprinting, or session replay on this website. Nothing here is used for ad targeting, and we never sell or share analytics data.

We do keep a small first-party count of how the public site is used, stored in our own Pack database. Each visit gets a random number that lives in your browser's sessionStorage and disappears when you close the tab — it is not a cookie and it cannot be linked to you or to any other visit.

What a recorded event contains: the event name (from a short fixed list such as “page view” or “join CTA click”), the page path without any query string, the time, a coarse device category (phone, tablet, or desktop), the hostname of a referring site, and campaign tags if you arrived from a link we tagged.

What it never contains: names, email addresses, phone numbers, any Scout or child information, anything you typed into a form, medical information, IP addresses, full user-agent strings, or full referring URLs.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we record nothing at all. You can also switch analytics off for this device with the control below — no account or email needed.

Analytics events are automatically deleted after 90 days. Only Pack 79 administrators can read them, and only as totals. We do not track what approved parents do inside the One Pack portal beyond a handful of coarse adoption counts (for example, that a portal page was opened or a calendar subscribe link was clicked).

Inside the private One Pack photo gallery, when an approved parent taps “Choose photos” we record only that a photo picker activation was requested — including when the picker is canceled, and without confirming a picker actually opened: a random event number and the server time. No name, account, email, session, device, photo, file name or error detail is stored, and nothing is recorded with Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track or the opt-out below. Administrators see only a total, the latest time and when counting began, for at most the past 30 days. Our retention target is 30 days and reports exclude anything older; this counter will not be switched on until a supported automatic deletion method is agreed and set up.

The rest of the browser storage we use is functional: keeping you signed in to One Pack (and, if you uncheck “Keep me signed in,” only for the current tab), remembering your packing-checklist ticks on your own device, and supporting the installable app experience.

Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived server logs for reliability and abuse prevention. Our internal error reporting deliberately strips email addresses, names, tokens, and form contents before anything is recorded.

Questions, corrections, or deletion requests

Send a note through our contact form and a Pack 79 volunteer leader will respond. We route privacy requests through the form rather than publishing a volunteer's personal email address — it protects our parent leaders and makes sure your message reaches whoever is currently responsible.
